| Performance
of fertigation in
tomato cultivation |
|
Fertigation
(Drip irrigation
with fertilizer)
system appeared
technically feasible
and economically
viable for tomato
cultivation. From
three years study
(2001 – 2004),
it was found that
nearly (29-31%)
increased tomato
yield (80-92t/ha)
was obtained in
fertigation treatment
with fertilizer
doses (N100 P100
K80 kg/ha), over
the traditional
system. These system
saved 60% of Urea,
36% of MP and 46%
of irrigation water.
The incremental
benefit cost ratio
was obtained in
fertigation treatment
2.60 – 2.85
over the farmers’
traditional practices.
Thus, it seemed
highly profitable
for tomato cultivation.
It is now being
demonstrated among
the farmers in 32
upzillas through
the department of
agricultural extension
(DAE) and on-farm
research division
(OFRD) of BARI.

brinjal cultivation |

Fertigation
(Drip irrigation
with fertilizer)
appeared technically
feasible and economically
viable for bring
at cultivation.
From the three years’
study nearly 30
– 33% of increased
yield (60 –
72 t/ha) was obtained
in fertigation over
the traditional
system with fertilizer
doses N110 P30 K60
kg/ha. This system
saved 40% of Urea,
50% of MP and 49%
of irrigation water.
The incremental
benefit cost ratio
was obtained in
fertigation treatment
(2.25 – 2.73)
over the traditional
system. Now this
techynology is being
dessiminated among
the farmers through
DAE and OFRD, BARI.

| Development
of flow diversion
device for shallow
tubewell |
|
Larger
flows from
shallow tube
wells when
diverted to
potato, onion,
garlic or
similar other
spices or
non-spices
crops grown
in light textured
soil, they
cause considerable
erosion of
the soil and
uprooting
of tender
plants. So
it is always
difficult
to control
large flows
in farmers’
small plots.
Considering
this view,
Irrigation
and water
management
division developed
a flow diversion
device by
which at list
3 –
4 farmers
can irrigate
their fields
from a shallow
tube flow
at a time.
|
|
|
|
| It
has following characteristics |
 |
At least 3 – 4
farmers can irrigate their
fields at a time |
 |
The device is capable
to flow 600 litres of water
per minute |
 |
It helps to restore errosion
of light textured soil and
plant root systems |
 |
It is very much suitable
for potato, onion, garlic,
cabbage, cauliflower and
other spices crops |
 |
It costs Tk. 1500.00 with
PVC pipes per unit |
