The main objectives of the project are: |

Development of Hybrid Maize Research in Bangladesh |
July 2005-June 2010 |
- To develop inbred lines of maize
- To select suitable inbred lines for the development of superior hybrids
- To identify high yielding, agronomically acceptable and commercially viable hybrids of both field corn and baby corn.
- To develop superior hybrid maize variety with high nutritional quality, disease and insect resistance, and stress tolerance through molecular breeding.\
- To select superior variety (s) through participatory breeding
- To maintain and increase the seeds of parental lines of BARI released hybrids for producing larger scale hybrid seed.
- Larger scale breeder seed production of BARI released hybrid varieties.
- Training of personnel from GO< NGO, and seed companies on hybrid seed production
- Training of extension worker and farmers on hybrid seed production and hybrid maize cultivation
- To arrange adaptive research, pilot production and field day of BARI hybrid maize varieties at different parts of the country to popularize hybrid field corn and baby corn among the farmers.

Strengthening of Toxicological Laboratory and Research for the Detection and Quantification of Pesticide Residue in Agricultural Produces |

- Establishment of analytical laboratory for analyzing residue in agricultural produces
- Development of protocols of residue analysis for major group of pesticides;
- Collection of agricultural produces from different areas of Bangladesh and documentation of pesticide residue load over time and location
- Determination of MRLs for different pesticides and crops
- Creating awareness of among growers and consumers on deleterious effect of misusing pesticides through distribution of leaflets, booklets, pamphlets etc.
- Arrange training programs for the farmers
- Minimizing environmental pollution and health hazards
- Curtailing pesticide dependency in pest mangement programs and
- Ensuring steady production and consumption of agricultural produces

- Collection, identification, characterization and evaluation of germplasm
- Development of high yielding varieties with Resistant to disease, insect and tolerant to salt.

- Development of improved cultural management practices.

- Conduction of research based demonstration in block and training of extension personnel, NGO and farmers.
- Production and distribution of breeder's and truthful levels seeds of HYV.
- Validation of matured technologies through on farm trial at farmers field.

Integrated Project for Incressing Production of Onion, Garlic, Ginger, Turmeric and Chilli (BARI Part) |
July 2007 - June 2010 |
- To produce, preserve and supply 30.0 tons seeds and 60.0 tons bulb of Onion, 358.0 tons bulb of Garlic, 414.0 tons rhixome of Ginger, 718.0 tons corm of Turmevric and 2.3 tons seeds of Chilli both foundation and truthfully lebeled.
- To establish 250 M. ton storage facilities to preserve Onion, Chilli, Ginger, Turmeric and Garlic and to establish 40 sq.m dehumidified seed store for proservation of onion seed.
- Training of project personnel and 600 farmers and conduction of 2 seminar or workshop with a view to non-government organizations and related services to produce more spices crops.

Strengthening of Postharvest Technological Research at BARI |

- Development of physical facilities (Processing, analytical and quality control laboratory, office, vehicle etc. of postharvest technology division) and strengthening of research activities on Postharvest technology of crops at BARI.
- Arrangement of research inputs viz. equipment, chemicals, glassware's, utensils etc.
- Development/Improvement of handling, packaging, storage, processing and preservation technologies of agricultural crops at farm, traders, millers and industrial level.
- Arrangement of training programme for dissemination of matured technologies to the end users.
