BARI ALU-1 (Potato)
Released in 1990 for cultivation throughout the country, good for early planting.
Plants with vigorous growth,50-60 cm height and 4-5 stems per plant.
Tubers are light cream colour with light yellow flesh, flat- round with medium deep eyes.
Crop duration 80-85 days but can be harvested at 60-65 days for early market.
Yield 30-40 t/ha
Quick growing and can stand natural hazards.
Optimum planting time is 15 to 30 November
 
 
BARI ALU-7 (Potato)
Released in 1993 for cultivation throughout the country.
Tubers are white, oval- oblong, smooth skin with shallow eyes.
Life 90-95 days.
Yield 25-40 t/ha.
At present, most popular variety of Bangladesh.
Optimum planing time is 15 to 30 November.
 
 
BARI ALU-8 (Potato)
Released in 1993 for cultivation throughout the country.
Tubers are red, oval-oblong, smooth skin with shallow eyes.
Life 90-95 days
Yield 25-40 t/ha.
It is the second popular variety of Bangladesh
Optimum planting time is15 to 30 November.
 
 
BARI ALU-12 (Potato)
Released in 1993 for cultivation throughout the country.
Plants with vigorous growth and strong stout stems.
Tubers are light yellow, oval- round with medium deep eyes.
Life 90-95 days.
Yield 20-35 t/ha
Optimum planting time is 15 to 30 November
Moderately heat tolerant and can stand natural hazards.
Low degeneration rate.
 
 
BARI ALU-13 (Potato)
Released in 1994 for cultivation throughout the country.
Tubers are pale white, round- oval to round, rosette skin light yellow flesh and shallow eyes.
Life 90-95 days
Yield 25-30 t/ha
It has long dormancy and good keeping quality
Good for export.
Optimum planting time15 to 30 November.
 
 
BARI ALU-17 (Potato)
Released in 2000 for cultivation throughout the country.
Plants are medium with strong and stout stem, vigorous growth.
Tubers are attractive red, oval to long-oval, smooth with shallow eyes.
Life 90-95 days
Yield 25-30 t/ha.
Has sticky texture and can be used as a substitute of local varieties.
Moderately resistant to late blight
Optimum planting time 15-30 November.
 
BARI TPS-1 (True Potato Seed)
Hybrid potato variety of Bangladesh produced from true potato seed (TPS).
Released in 1997 mainly for the production of seedling tubers which are in turn, used as seed for ware potato production.
Tubers are white, round to oval in shape, smooth skin with medium deep eyes.
Life: TPS to seedling tuber: 100 days; seedling tuber to potato: 90-95 days.
Yield: TPS to seedling tuber: 45-60 t/ha: Seedling tuber to potato: 30-40 t/ha.
Optimum planting time: TPS to seedling tuber: Nov. 1-15; seedling tuber to potato: November 15-30
Moderately resistant to late blight.
 
BARI SP-1 (Sweet potato)
A high yielding variety of sweet potato, released in 1985
Vine colour violet and hair
Vine tip and leaf green
Tuber skin colour is white
Flesh colour is white and medium soft
Average tuber weight is 225 g
Vitamin-A content is about 450 IU per 100 g edible portion
Yield is 40-45 t/ha
Suitable for the preparations of chips, Jam, Jelly, Sauce, Haula etc.
Suitable for salinity condition
 
BARI SP-2 (Sweet potato)
A high yielding variety of sweet potato, released in 1985
Vine tip violet, leaf green
Skin and flesh colour of the tuber is orange
Flesh is soft-textured
Average weight of tuber is 200 g
Vitamin-A content is about 7500 IU per 100 g edible portion
Yield is 40-45 t/ha
Suitable for the preparations of Jam, Jelly, Chips, Sauce, Halua etc.
 
BARI SP-3 (Sweet potato)
A local improved variety of sweet potato, released in 1988
Vine colour is green
Leaves are lobed and green in colour
Skin and flesh colour of tuber is white
Average tuber weight is 190 g
The flesh is devoid of vitamin-A
Dry matter content is high (about 33%)
Yield is 30-35 t/ha
Tolerant to sweet potato weevil
Suitable for drought and salinity conditions
